Rewriting a paragraph from Nineteen Eighty-Four 

Original: It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen. Winston Smith, his chin nuzzled into his breast in an effort to escape the vile wind, slipped quickly through the glass door of Victory Mansions, though not quickly enough to prevent a swirl of gritty dust from entering along with him.

Simple sentences: It was a bright cold day in April. The clocks were striking thirteen. Winston Smith nuzzled his chin into his breast in an effort to escape the vile wind. He slipped quickly through the glass doors of Victory Mansions. He was not quick enough to prevent a swirl of gritty dust from entering along with him.

Placing subordinate clauses in different locations: Winston Smith nuzzled his chin into his breast in an effort to escape the vile wind on the bright, cold April day. As the clock struck thirteen, he slipped quickly through the glass doors of Victory Mansions and a swirl of dust entered along with him. He was not quick enough.
